“Our policies have not necessarily kept up with the evolving
nature of city neighbourhoods. The rise of multi-generational housing is
a good example of people wanting other ways to live on a property, and
garden suites accommodate that.”
— David Driedger, a senior planner for the City of
Toronto on the city’s new garden suite bylaw, which
went into effect on July 4.

Let There Be Skylights
|
Atelier Štěpán incorporated a skylight into
nearly every room of this Czech Republic villa.
But the project’s ultimate connection to
nature lies in its breathtaking internal
courtyard, which looks up to the sky through a
large circular opening in the roof. Off to the
side, you’ll find a plunge pool and sauna.

Coffee Is My Religion
|
VSHD Design describes its design for
Dubai’s Orijins coffee shop as offering
the “sanctitude of an ancient
chapel.” The CNC-cut pieces of marble that
comprise the bar are based on hand-sketched
forms that were then converted to 3D models.
Just like the café’s beverages,
they reflect a perfect marriage of technology
and craft.
